Our Story

Howard Aschoff’s formal education comes from CCM in Randolph, NJ and The College of New Jersey formerly known as Trenton State College. The Electronic Engineering Technology Program instituted an “applied engineering” concept that has forever influenced his leadership approach. Initially hired in 1984 in Allied Corporation’s Laser R&D program, Mr. Aschoff developed into a Sr. Research Project Engineer followed by a position as Research Scientist-2 at Honeywell Labs Corporate R&T in Morristown, NJ. In the eighteen years of corporate experience the diversity of projects has given invaluable exposure to international clients, large universities, and corporate R&D centers. Due to project commitments, he has had extended stays in Switzerland, Germany, California, Florida, Kansas, Ohio, and New Jersey.

Projects include the design/build of high average power solid state lasers, medical laser lithotripsy, lithography, thin film deposition, thermography, avionic plasma displays, optical gyroscopes, and long range identification systems. He is credited with three technical conference papers, one patent and five patents reduced to practice. “Novel Approaches” was initially formed in 2002 to address consulting needs at Honeywell Corp., Princeton University, and Snake Creek Lasers. These clients had distinctly different projects that required expertise in Hi-Power electronic/electrical design, Hi-Vacuum technology, and Lasers/electro-optics. As a former R&D Project leader, directing small Hi-tech teams to design/construct new functioning devices, diagnostics, or systems was the main objective. Often technical papers and patentable concepts resulted. There were nine part-time employees in 2005.

Our History

Novel Approaches Solar Applications, LLC was formed in 2008. It is a photovoltaic engineering and contracting company. It founded “The Green Quarry Project”. This project involves subsidizing the energy needs of the mining industry with large scale commercial solar arrays (>300KW). It involved the DEC, TSEC, JGS Accounting, Hudson Valley Angels, Grosso Materials Quarry and a host of private and public forum presentations. To date, N.A.S.A. LLC is contracted with NYSERDA as a “NABCEP Certified” Photovoltaic Installer. Howard Aschoff is listed on both NYSERDA & NABCEP websites. He has a Master Electrician License in Orange County, NY. Novel Approaches can obtain NYSERDA cash rebates for N.Y. PV customers.

In 2011, the company was contracted by module manufacturer, Solartech Renewables in Kingston, NY. It designed and supervised the construction of two 50KW systems. (The New Horizons Middle School in Brooklyn, and the former IBM building on Enterprise Drive in Kingston, NY.) Over the past four years, several solar & electrical courses have been developed and proctored at SUNY Colleges (Sullivan, Rockland and Orange). SUNY Orange and SUNY Rockland have contracted Novel Approaches to install PV systems for training on campus. As an American Solar Energy Society Member and consultant to the TSEC group (The Solar Energy Consortium), it is with great enthusiasm and dedication in which Novel Approaches Solar Applications, LLC, plans on nurturing the development of solar technology in the Hudson Valley/Tri-State area. To any interested party; Project Abstracts, Solar Field-Trip Benchmark Reports, and References can be furnished upon request.
